Neglect on damaged good replacement

I ordered a pair of adidas NEO takkies on Feb 10th and by may I had to take them in for replacement due to damage on the right shoe. I had complied with edgars' three month return policy but not before checking with Adidas as they have a 6 month policy which led me to wonder as to why the two weren't compensated for by the retailer. None-the-less I had the shoe taken in and as the branch no longer had it in stock they told me they would place an order request and let me know when the item arrived so naturally I complied and gave them my pair now making it impossible to go via Adidas directly because all the necessary details they require are item specific.

I found out that the day after my request they found out that it was out of stock (hard to believe that the item wasn't available nationally at any branch) but I had to go in myself after 3 weeks, suspecting nothing had been done and I was shocked (and so was Priscilla, who was very helpful and is trying to sort this out)

Now I sit with the issue of the item having been ignored for almost a month and the original pair is gone making it impossible to file for replacement with Adidas. Very disappointed
