Still waiting on a refund for a week now

I bought two items and paid cash (swiped with my cheque card). I took it back still with tags on and within the refund period and asked for a refund. The cashier took the items, asked for the same cheque card which I gave to her. I aksed her how long it will take for the funds to show in my account, she said 24 - 48 hrs. Today, exactly a week ago, still NO money in my account. I called the store and explained my situation. I was called back and sopke to a David Plaatjies who asked me to re-explain it him, which I did. He then had the nerve to ask me to come into the store with my my bank statement, proving that now refund was done. Not only are they pathetic in service, this also boils down to defamation of character. I then got another call from Maxine, asking for the same thing, but also stating that I can fax it. because according to their systems, the refund was done already. I don't know into who's account they've paid it, but it never ended up in my accout. Managent is/was in a meeting, so I'm still waiting to be contacted
