R2500 penalty, straight to ADT for doing nothing!

We were happy existing ADT clients, and moving house. My wife signed a new contract with ADT for the new house, not knowing that this will tie us down for 24 months.

But when we moved in, the alarm was too small, and ADT quoted us around R11, 000 to have it upgraded. While a competitor only charged us R6000. So we cancelled the ADT contract (within 20 days) and signed a contract with the competitor.

Given our montly premium with ADT being R376, they now want to penalize us for the cancellation: R2600! That's nearly 7 months worth of premiums!

My gripe is that ADT is only "getting us" on a contractual technicality. We did not cost them any money (maybe a little admin money). Yet they want to get R2600 from us, for nothing. Easy money. Just business right?

I'd be happy to pay one or two months penalty. But 7 months? No way.
