Multichoice Decoder Insurance

Recreation & Entertainment

I would like to caution others who have Decoders Insured with Multichoice, in that they must understand that the Insurance only covers very specific events. In my case I have had my main Decoder Insured with Multichoice for around 10 years. I moved from Johannesburg to Hazyview (Mpumalanga) 2 years ago, during the move the Decoder casing was slightly damaged (cracked), however it still worked fine until we had a severe lighting storm and the Decoder was "hit". After which it started giving me no end of trouble, this continued for -6 months. Last week I travelled to Johannesburg and went to Multichoice in Randburg to exchange the Decoder for a new one. They refused to "exchange" it as the casing was damaged and they will only exchange a decoder (with problems) with no evident external damage.
My purpose of this email is to advise others who may think that they have cover for their Decoders to check that if it is damaged, it will not be exchanged, notwithstanding what damage to the internal workings of the Decoder may be. Best to cancel your Insurance and buy a new Decoder if yours falls into this category.
