Rea Vaya funds with faulty card scanners

Passengers using Rea Vaya buses are required to tap in their cards at the beginning of a journey and tap out at the end of the journey so that they may be charged correctly. If you do not tap in and out a penalty is levied against you equal to an undisclosed amount. However, seeing as the card scanners on the buses do not work most of the time, passengers are unable to tap in and are therefore charged a penalty when tapping out of the station. PASSENGERS are being charged a penalty for REA VAYAS faulty equipment!!! Some other people I know have been charged over R100 in penalties because of this! I myself have lost about R40. Bus drivers and staff at the terminal are clueless about what to do and just watch on indifferently as passengers are forced to fork out more money to reload their smartcards after having lost most of their funds to unfair penalties. What concerns me even more, is that staff are not bothered to bring up the matter with a higher authority and no record is kept of how much money each passenger has lost so people can't even expect to be refunded! I take the C3 bus from Park to Wits and back everyday and have seen this occur everyday.
