Non approval of procedure

I had a lateral fracture of my L3 vertebra. My orthopedic surgeon Dr. F. Wahl, is known in SA as the pioneer of the Kyphoplasty procedure and he has the know-how, experience and most procedures of this kind in SA. Discovery has approved this procedure for this doctor in the past for trauma cases (as in my case) but now they've changed the procedure requirement to people with low bone density only! With this procedure I will be up an about with a brace in 48hrs, however Discovery will only approve an extremely invasive procedure whereby 3 of my vertebrae (of which 2 are perfectly healthy) would have to be fused together. Not only is this highly invasive, but it also requires a lengthy recovery process with extensive physiotherapy. Discovery need to understand that their board of experts can not and will never be experts in all medical fields, and they should allow (especially the pioneers in specialized fields) to advise them. The real Discovery has been discovered!
