Discovery Health
Life saving procedure declined by Discovery Health

Health & Medicine

I have been diagnosed with keratoconus, which left untreated could mean that I either have a cornea transplant or I go blind. My ophthalmologist recommended that I have a procedure called cross-linking which at this stage is the only thing that I can do to prevent my condition deteriorating. Discovery Health has declined to pay for this procedure which I cannot understand based on the fact that in the long run, it will cost them more to pay for a cornea transplant or I lose my eye sight. It amazes me how unintelligent Discovery Health is in their decisions when it comes to approving procedures which could ultimately save a person's life. This is not a new procedure and it has been proven to improve or stabilise ones eye sight without going down the path of having a cornea transplant or losing ones sight altogether.
