I applied to have my mother added as a dependent on my medical aid. Before i did so i enquired everything the consultant told me that she will either be charge a late joiner fee or a 3 month waiting period but if shes charge the late joiner fee it will be for the first month the next month will go back to the normal premiumn i also asked for a pre-underwriting to check, needless to say i never recieved the underwriting untill i had to call to find out what was happening. I was then informed my mother was accept however they charged her the late joiner fee which apparently is for life as well as a 3 month waiting period. With the late joiner fee my mother would be paying more than myself as the primary member and she only get 3500 rand a month and they wanted her to pay 1400 a month. How on earth did do they expect her to like on 2100 a month? Tell me can anyone live on that in this day and age? As far as i am aware medical aids are only allowed to charge one or the other not both a late joiner fee as well as a 3 month waiting period. A dependent cannot pay more than a primary member. Its absolutly rediculous.
