Discovery Health
This procedure could save a mans sight

Health & Medicine

My husband S.Khan who is a member of the discovery medical aid scheme is going for an operation on the 30/01/2014. This procedure is for a corneal cross linking and to insert a kera ring into his eye.

As far as I know no medical aid cover corneal cross linking which is totally understandable. But a number of other medical aids cover insertations of kera rings. For some reason discovery see's this process as a refractive surgery which is not the case as this needs to be done for a degenerative corneal disease and discovery expects it to be covered by the client and may pay from medical part from savings.? This is not an out of hospital procedure as my husband will be admitted for the day and this should be seen as a hospital payment not a medical savings day to day payment.

This surgery is not done to correct a refractive problem but rather to help My husband with a degenerative corneal disease. He is on the verge of loosing his eye sight as his sight is getting worse by the day. And in a matter of 6-12 months his right eye has gone from being able to see to now seeing just colour and nothing else. He needs this surgery to make sure that he does go blind.
