This is on behalf of my sister who is a member of the discovery medical aid.
She joined the medical aid on the 1/03/2013 and did not know she was pregnant, she then found out a month later she was so did the right thing by sending a letter from the dr and disclosing that she was pregnant. She was then told by a call centre agent that everything is fine she will be covererd, they then approved all gynae appointments so my sister was under the impression that all is fine as no correspndence was sent to say that she has a waiting period on pregnancy. Now 8 months later when she requires an auth number she is told that it is declined as she knew she was pregnant. Why did she have to wait 8mths to be told she cant use a private hospital, we not so rich that we can take out 20 000 out of our pockets to pay hospital bills hence the reason we join med aids. I work for a medical aid company and understand all rules but this does not make sense as they were suppose to make the member aware that she will not have private hospital cover so that she can make alternate arrangements, at 8 months she does not need this stress, this is pathetic customer service and totally against CPA.
