Are we really in safe hands? I think not

Health & Medicine

My 82 year old father has been in Olivedale Clinic for just over 3 weeks. He is pretty much unresponsive and has not been in a condition to fend for himself in any way since his admittance. The care given has on the whole been shocking, despite the friendly staff. My family decided on day two to have one of my fathers carers or a contract nurse with my father at all times as the faith in the hospitals ability to fully care for my father had already been badly eroded.
Unfortunately we have not kept detailed notes up to now but in the past day:
1. Pain medication prescribed by the dr to be given every 6 hours was only given after 11 hours due to our reminding the staff
2. The laxitive prescribed for 10pm was not given at all despite my father being constipated for over 2 days.
3. The iv drip prescribed by the dr at 9:15am this morning was only put up at 9pm this evening, beacuse of our reminding staff.
4. Meds took 3 hours to be delivered after prescription.
If we aren't here to check on things they simply don't happen.
That's not right. Is it? And this is private health care!!
No, sadly, my father is not in safe hands despite Netcare claiming the contrary.
