Stewart Barnes is an unscrupulous contractor!

We contracted Stewart Barnes to renovate our home which we bought a year ago in Hout Bay. He started in Oct 2013 and promised to have the job done before Christmas. It started off well enough and the job was moving at a steady pace but the alarm bells started sounding when we found out that he was not using an accredited company to do our cement floors. He convinced us that his guy knew how to do it and we went away on holiday for a week while they completed it. The floors started cracking soon after we walked into the house and everything had to be knocked up again. He to us about buying our garage doors when he hadn't, and the kept coming as less and less materials arrived for the builders. On Monday 27/01/2014 he sent us an email citing frozen accounts and lack of funds as his reason for pulling out of the job. We have paid him for 82% of the job and he has completed roughly 40% and messed up a large chunk which has to be redone. We are taking legal action and sorely regret allowing him to renovate our home.
