VW repairs are VERY expensive

I just took my VW Polo 2003 in for a repair.

They quoted me R5600 for changing a rear wheel bearing and another R4900 for changing a door lock. I've spoken to a mechanic whom I trust and he told me that the parts are R350 for good quality bearings seal and he charges R500 for 2 hours labour. So for the price that VW quoted for 1 bearing, I can get all 4 wheels done and have some spare change.

How on earth is that possible?
