Staff cause damages and refuse to acknowledge

What does an indemnity sign mean that ends with ..."or damages that may occur."?

Does is mean a company is not liable for accidental damage to a client's property due to forces beyond their control? Whether caused by negligence by their own staff, other customers or any other forces.

Or is it there for the company to hide behind to cover for their staff who are ignorant, apathetic and have no regard for other people's property?

I sold my Ford Focus to a family member who took it to Dekra in Pta North for road worthy. The bonnet is opened by using the ignition key which opens a lock situated behind the Ford badge on the grill. The person who inspected the car forced the lock (probably turning it the wrong way) which damaged the lock and key. After unsuccessfully trying to open to the bonnet he called the vehicle owner who then tied to use the spare key which would also not work, and which had previously worked 100%.
This damage cost me over R2000 to fix. When I approached them this morning about the damage, they denied any culpability, saying their staff would not damage a vehicle and therefore refuse to pay for the damage or compensate me in some way.
