Coffee stained dress

I attended a corporate year end function at the end of last year.
Our dinner arrived at around 22h00 when all the other tables had finished eating and started dancing on the stage. At this point a waiter dropped a pot of BOILING HOT coffee on my BRAND NEW WHITE dress. No one bothered to find out if i was ok. When i called the manager (Sebastian) and asked what he was going to do about this he responded with "Nothing, this happens all the time." I then told him that my new dress had been ruined and the response i got was "my waiter also got hurt."
I then asked Sebastian to give me the number of his superior which he blatantly refused to do and then proceeded to laugh about this situation with the door lady while I left.
Thankfully I was at a corporate function and therefore had an event planner who got me the number of another manager who paid for the damages on my dress.
But HOW can it be ok to spill an entire pot of coffee on a customer and receive no help from the waiters or management and then to be treated with such blatant disrespect by a manager.
