Die Gieter
Worst food I've eaten in a long time!

On the 20th August four of us went out for dinner at Die Gieter Restaurant in Knysna. I had been there previously and thoroughly enjoyed their Kudu Steak, but this evening not only was the service shocking, but the food was just plain awful. We waited about 45 minutes for our starters which were pedestrian, and then even longer for our mains. I had rabbit with polenta. The rabbit was dry and tasteless and the polenta was soft and moggy. My guests had oxtail. It looked worse than the food I suspect they get in prisons and was fatty and gelatine like. Another guest had mash potato with pork belly which was supposed to be crispy. It was not and the mash looked like cauliflower which had been cooked to a pulp and tasted like nothing I've ever had before. After the chef came out, by our insistence, she asked what the problem was. We asked her if she had tasted any of the dishes, she had not! Her no care attitude was unacceptable and we ended up paying the full bill, plus corkage on two bottles of wine, with no apology or offer of a coffee/sweet on the house. I certainly will NEVER go back there again.
