ABSA credit card chargeback - no action from ABSA

I purchased computer hardware in the amount of R29 000 from a company in the United States with my Virgin Credit Card. This card is backed by ABSA. The merchant I purchased from promised delivery of my equipment by end of November 2012. This did not happen. On 8 January 2012 I requested the merchant for a refund. I received no response from the. I then proceeded to open a dispute with the dispute center at ABSA [Email Removed] After several days I received a response from ABSA that they are only a medium of payment and that they cannot authorize the cancellation of the transaction. They also state that "If you did placed an order but did not receive any goods, kindly let us have a written statement to this effect as well as proof that you attempted to resolve the dispute with the merchant to cancel your booking and request a refund." I DID send them proof that I contacted the merchant! Additionally, PASA states that I am entitled to open a dispute, and that ABSA is then required to take up the issue with the merchant, and request PROOF of DELIVERY. I am highly disappointed in ABSA. This leaves me not option but to open a case with the banking Ombudsman.
