Outsurance
"Wear and tear" clause

Business & Finance

I have been with Outsurance for close to 10 years and have paid premiums close to R100 000 during that period. I have never claimed a cent from this company.

I build my house in 2002. Those days Chromadeck was the best product that you could put on your roof- I did and it cost a pretty penny. More or less 4 years ago, I noticed that my roof is starting to rust. I went to every paint shop in the vicinity to enquire about products to use to repaint or stop the rusting process, unfortuanatly nothing sticks to the chromadeck except waterproofing membrane and -paint; which I used on several places on my roof.

A few weeks ago, I decided to give Outsurance a call. The rust was getting out of control and I feared that the roof might start leaking and cause more damage to ceilings and the interior. A contractor was sent out. He said all the roof sheets must be replaced. Imagine my surprise when I got the call from Outsurance informing me that my claim has been rejected! "wear and tear" they called it. Also because I live so close to the sea, they do not cover my roof! The total amout is R14000, So "wear and tear" is their new buzz word for not paying out your claim! Disgusting!
