Standard Bank
Standard bank refuses to refund

Business & Finance

On 23 March I made an internet banking payment. The banking details provided to me were entered including FNB as the bank. When I submitted the payment, after carefully checking the details, the payment was then made into an ABSA account. Internet banking automatically changed the bank to ABSA without any warning or notification!! When I complained to Standard Bank, the agent agreed that this was strange (he also tried to make the same payment online) and that there should be an alert stating that the details entered have been changed/ are invalid.
I have lodged a complaint, after much frustration and delay, I received a response from Standard Bank all about loading a beneficiary. I have on numerous occasions advised this was a once off payment! Standard Bank state that they cannot recover the funds paid into the ABSA account holder's account.
I feel that they are liable as there was NO notification whatsoever while making the payment that they had changed the bank automatically - their agent even agreed there should be. Had this occurred I could have gone back to the payee and asked him to confirm the account details. I would like Standard Bank to refund my money.
