Bank ask for card PIN over phone?

Business & Finance

Why did FNB ask me for my PIN number over the phone? I thought banks were never supposed to ask this?
I was told by the operator this is safe, as I would key the number into the telephone...
So are telephones now secure? I wonder how the encryption works on a telkom line? Hmmmm... good thing I am a computer scientist and knows better...

Does this not defeat the following measures?
1) Https 128 encryption
2) Https server verification to prevent phishing

Your poor clients... little do they know... and an operator from FNB insisting this is secure LOL!!!
