SA Warranties
Hiding behind vague fine print

Business & Finance

I took my vehicle in to be assessed (Clutch slipping) during a std service (90K). The quote to repair was high but no other items reported.
I went to another approved mechanic for a 2nd opinion. After confirmation, the mechanic noticed the centre bearing in the propshaft was bad and also needed replacing.
They contacted SAW to query how best to submit the additional claim as it's also listed in the items covered. SAW say submit together, they will approve accordingly. They don't say the claim will have a maximum pay out of R2500 as they will only pay out the greater for the some of the 2 claims.
I have subsequently read in the fine print: "Any number of failures or repairs that occur at the same time shall be treated as one claim. In this instance, the liability will not exceed the amount of the major component benefit." It doesn't read: "Should your vehicle go in for one thing and another is diagnosed, only the greater of the 2 will be reimbursed! "
They didn't fail at the same time and are unrelated. 2 items 2 claims.
I believe SAW are preying on the assumption I made looking at the lovely long list of parts covered and are selling a product under this misconception.
