Santam - No Different from Other Insurers

In March 2011 I a claim was submitted under my insurance policy for subsidence on my property. Santam refused the claim saying the cracks were due to a whole range of "uninsured events". It took them 8 months to decide this.

In January 2012 I submitted a complaint to the Ombudsman. In October 2012 a new Assesor is appointed and concludes that subsidence has occurred.

In December 2012 we finally receive an "offer". This states that we are 40% under insured - even though a previous burglary claim (where property was damaged) in November 2012 was paid out in full. We then discover that the estimated cost to rebuild our house for this exercise has included Consultancy Fees of 40%. Professional fees to build a residential property are normally no more than 10% - 15%. Having finally been shown that subsidence had occurred Santam then hunt for other reasons not to pay our our claim in full.

Do not believe Santam's fancy advertising campaign - they are the same and worse than all other insurance companies. They have treated us in an appalling manner. They certainly do not "bend over backwards for you" I am moving all my insurance business both personal and business elsewhere
