Dealing with claim

We have had cable in our area, which resulted in a huge power surge... leaving ourselves and our neighbours with severe electrical losses.
Contacted the ABSA Call Centre and registered the claim on 14/01.2014. Whereby received reference number and a message indicating that should we not be contacted in 48 hrs, we need to phone the call centre again.
After talking to Waybridge, was told the claim was only processed today at 10:38, I contacted the call centre and spoke to the person Shashini Rambaran who dealt with the claim. When I enquired why it was only processed today... I was told that I am LUCKY, because it was done in 24 hrs, they have potentially 48 hrs to process.
When asked what the turn-around times were... claims department have 48hrs (working) to register claim received via call centre. Assessor have 48 hrs to do report, another 24 hrs to submit report... then only will they decide to send a contractor.
So, potentially looking at 5 - 7 working days without hot water and functioning gate... before anyone makes a decision?
Maybe ABSA should be upfront about their turn-around time before selling policies to their long-standing clients
I shall be moving my insurance!!!
