When I took out a 2nd bond on my house some years ago I was compelled to take out insurance as well. The two claims I lodged were both denied.
1. Some years ago the geyser leaked onto the ceiling and walls. Absa responded that they don't cover leaky geysers, only when they explode. Damage = own cost.
2. In October 2013, after we worked hard for weeks to repair damage caused to the house by a vandalistic tenant and the house could not be occupied it was broken into. The front door was smashed, the security gate taken off to serve as a ladder to reach the ceiling to get into the flat next door, which action failed. The flat was then broken into from outside and stuff. When I contacted Absa to claim they shrugged it off with "we don't cover the property if it has been unoccupied for more than 30 days". A request for a copy of the contract went unheeded until now.
I am disgusted! All these years I paid my installments and premiums, but never get the service! They may be "there today, tomorrow" but they're nowhere when one needs service and assitance!
