I dont work for the company but they still exp

I just received a call from attorneys on behalf of Metropolitan Life, i was suprised to be informed that my account was handed over for collection because apperently i am R15000 behind with the payment for my lapsed policies that i once upon a time wrote when i was still working for the company. i was not informed via a letter, call, sms regarding such issues irsing, i left the company close to 2 years ago even when i was working there it was commission base, i was payed for what i put in NO BASIC. at some point i was not even getting paid at all, i was just working for free and the excuse was its because i have lapsed polies that i still need to catch up on. i cannot control what a client does with their money, they pay when they pay and if they dont pay you cannot arrest them. now i owe R15000 so they say how will i pay it back with no job what so ever, and the decency of just surprising me with a call from collections. i do not have R15000 in my disposal just ready to pay for the company e left ages ago. they can do what they want to do its out of my control.
