Unfair bank card charges

I was at Mowbray branch on Monday the 16 September to report my card faulty. The entire weekend I received slips from the atm, stating that there is a problem with my chip. I resorted to transferring money to my siblings account to gain access to my cash. This I explained to the customer service consultant and she was adamant that I have to pay R76 replacement card fee as it is customer damaged. I understand that a card charge is applicable if is it lost or but am I going to be penalised for using my card frequently? This card I only have a few months? Unlimited card swipes are included in my monthly fee and I hate having cash on me. Am I wrong to feel this way? R76 is a whole weeks bread money.
