Absa
Partially Insured?

Business & Finance

On 2/8, we encountered a burst geyser. Being after hours & start of a weekend, a local plumber was called, who acted immediately. Repair & labour cost were settled in cash & in full.
On the Monday, ABSA Insurance were notified, they registered the claim & requested the Invoice. I forwarded the document, they sent the contracted plumber to inspect the work done. Excellent service.
Then the wait. On 12/9 I enquired about the status of the claim and the invoice was requested again by ABSA, so no progress up to that stage - 6 weeks later. After re-sending the invoice, I received by return mail, a document to sign, in acceptance of a settlement amount, whereby I would agree to accept a gross amount less than the repair cost!
I am aware that there would be an excess payment, but are totally surprised that the repair cost to be paid, is less than the actual cost. Non of this was ever discussed nor mentioned during the claim process. After my query on this, I was informed that settlement is according to ABSA approved rates. Rates approved to the cent, lower than repair cost? (R5541.54 vs. R5900.00) I find this absurd. Again as long as you pay, fine - when you have a claim - problems!
