Selling a funeral policy without a beneficiary

A number of years ago, Absa, possibly at the Bluff branch, sold my mom, Mrs RB Beare a funeral policy. She passed away in October. When my oldest sister, Mrs L Heyneke went to see about it, they said we could not claim as there was no beneficiary. My brother in law had to pay out of his own pocket. How can absa sell a funeral policy without beneficiaries!!! My sister, or one of us now have to possibly go to a high court to get one of us appointed so we can sort this out. We all work, and as I live in Durban, the estate is being settled in Jhb (I only have power of attorney on her account so theres nothing I can do). We are suppose to have closure on this, but we cant even sort the funeral out. I think its awful service of Absa. We shouldnt have to be worrying about things like this at this time!!!
