I became part of SA's crime statistics on 14 Jun 13 when our house was broken into with valuable and priceless items being removed "without our permission". The matter was dealt with promptly and efficiently by the SAPS on the day of the crime but nothing subsequent to the initial statement and fingerprint taking. Compounding my frustration at the event is the process of processing my insurance claim. The call centre was helpful but my experience with the subsequent investigation has created my perception that insurance claims are investigated more thoroughly than the SAPS case! I understand we live in a society where insurance could be rife but it feels as if I am being treated as guilty of such and having to prove my innocence. When I cited my concern that the claim is being investigated more thoroughly than the case, I was told that it is a factual investigation and that I should do introspection as to my perceptions. My claim is still pending because my previous insurer cannot substantiate my assertion that I received a payout in 2005 and because, in human error, I incorrectly described the make of my laptop which I just recently reused after being on loan.
