Health & Accident Group
They sold income protect, I got discrimination

Business & Finance

As a Personal Trainer you earn every cent. No work, No pay. If you need to take time off work, you plan for it. In 2011, Health and Accident Group came to the rescue and presented an Income Protection Insurance, which sounded good. Last month I was diagnosed with adinimyosis (constant inflammation, pain and bleeding of the uterus) Under my doctors advise I underwent a hysterectomy. I informed the Insurers beforehand of my surgery and would be off for 4 weeks. No questions asked. After surgery I contacted them for information to claim, only to be told "they don't cover hysterectomy, as it is an elective procedure". Since when is being born with a uterus elective? What woman elects to have her world removed? After arguing they sent me a"'Wording Doc', something I had never received before, checked all my mail including trashed, even asked colleagues, they had never seen one either and have now requested it. I thought I bought insurance to protect my income, not some hospital plan. I find this to be extremely discriminating and insulting against women. Had I known, I would have invested elsewhere. Mailing T's&C's after the fact, makes for bad business. I want my salary I paid for.
