Standard Bank
Roof leaking, Std. Bank Insurance rejects claim

Business & Finance

I bought my house in January 2011. Standard Bank approved the loan with no problems highlighted. The agent who sold the house also assured me that there were no hidden problems. The first thing I did before winter in 2011, was to get on the roof and to reseal the gulleys and channels and any possible new areas that could be a problem. I also cleaned out the gutters. The winter came and went and I had no leaks. In 2012 I sealed, repainted and did maintenance again. In the winter of 2012 the roof started leaking and damaged my ceilings as well as some walls. I lodged a claim with Standard Bank Insurance and their conclusion was that proper maintenance had not been carried out on the roof and it was therefore my problem. I did not get this in writing though, only verbally. I wrote to them many times objecting to the 'rejection' of my claim and to put their findings in writing. When I eventually I heard from them in 13 Feb. 2013 after a number of letters and many months, they produced a letter of rejection dated 4 Sep. 2012. What course of action do I have left but to complain here?
