What happened to service for hard-earned money?

I booked my husband on a full body massage and pedicure with Skin and Body Matters in Pineslopes through Groupon. On arrival for his appointment on 9/12/13, there was no receptionist and a Nigerian was lying on couch, sleeping. He (my husband) sat and waited for awhile expecting someone to come out and attend to him. Eventually 'sleeping beauty' wakes up and asks him if he can help him. My husband says he's there for his appointment whereupon the man tells him that 'oh, the therapist didn't come to work today'. My husband called Groupon and reported the incident. I was e-mailed requesting proof of payment and banking details for a refund to be made. Since the booking had been made in September and I had received my voucher, I discarded the printed page. I did however, provide the line item reflecting the debit off my account. Since then I have called and left messages for the manager to escalate the matter and have had no feedback/response.
What screening goes into the suppliers that Groupon contract with?? Not a very careful or stringent one, I'm afraid. As for the level of service... hmmm, what is that?
