Quote price and then retract in 24 hours

I called the above promotional company for a quote on colour changing mugs. They gave me a price via e-mail of R38.50 excl VAT and R170 setup costs for the artwork. I accepted this via e-mail. After numerous mails and telephone calls, I finalised the order of 200 pices and was waiting for the invoice.

Today, I got a call form the owner, Annelee Mulder, who said that they cannot do the deal at this price as they are a wholesaler not a promo company and that her employee made a mistake. She also said that their reputation is at stake and could not fulfil the order.

I then stated to her that this is breach of contract in terms of the Consumer Act and she said that if I was to pursue this, she would have to send it to her lawyers. SHE WOULD LOSE!!!

Surely companies such as this should make sure that their employees are suitably trained from the outset? And this is of course the most unprofessional manner to handle anything of this nature. Willing to get her lawyers involved? Her reputation at stake? WOW, surely this deal could have been concluded and written off as a mistake and then she could have saved face???

This is a company that I will NEVER deal with AGAIN!!!
