Access To Africa
Cost did not match experience

Traveling & Tourism

I recently booked a tour of Senegal and The Gambia via "Access to Africa". The trip was billed at /- ZAR 40, 0000).

I accepted on the basis that this was to be a premium trip for the solo traveller.

The premium vehicles were late model 1980's Mercedes Benz station waggons that had seen better days.

Hotel accommodation was "breakfast inclusive", this meaning that anything beyond the basics was an additional cost.

As I was now locked into the trip (Access to Africa's terms and conditions were only provided after I complained) it was continue or loose the money anyway.

I finally got a hotel upgrade, however the "supplementary" costs remained.

Access to Africa's attitude - I was not overcharged, however it is not their, or their partners policy to provide cost break downs.

This has been an expensive learning exercise - read their conditions and do your homework as to local pricing, you should be able to do the same trip for a lot less.

My conclusion if you use Access to Africa beware, the experience I thought i was going to get for R 40, 000 never occurred.

They do not belong to ASATA so the only avenue of complaint is via the DTI.
