My husband and I are traveling from east London to johannesburg now. We were checking in and had a bag that was 23kg and another one that was 18kg between the two of us, together making it 41kgs. We were very disappointed in the fact that we were charged R250 for 1kg extra. And besides this, the attitude of the lady who helped us was far from helpful. We were told that "this is policy" - while the plane was far from full. We have had a very good experience with Kulula up until now, and being one of the two airlines that fly to east London we will not be so quick to choose it again next time because of the lack of help from the staff and charging us R250 essentially for nothing.
