Luggage lost for two weeks and no progress!!!

As the host to a global meeting in the past two weeks in SA, I am utterly disgusted by SAA's mishandling of lost luggage by one of our participants from Quito, Ecuador. Her baggage went missing en route to SA (she then travelled on to Maputo) on 30 September, and by the time she returned to Quito on 11 October it had not been returned to her despite repeated assurances that the luggage had been directed to Quito and would be there when she arrived. We have spent many hours on the phone to SAA's lost luggage division - 0119785826 - and colleagues have spent hours in this office insisting on some progress. Yesterday (15 Oct) I spent two hours trying to get through to this number, being put on hold, being cut off and treated with such disinterest and we have not progressed an iota. The reference number for the matter is MPMSA48496. SAA and its staff have in two weeks (!!!) shown little interest in resolving this matter - the owner of the luggage is traumatised as some items of great personal (and not economic!) value are in the suitcase and the organisers of the conference have been run ragged and are left ashamed by this most poor performance on the part of our national carrier.
