NEVER BOOK AND CANCEL AN SAA FLIGHT ONLINE

I booked an SAA return flight online to East London from King Shaka airport (Durban) for 28 August 2013.
Subsequently, the exam I was writing was moved to Durban so I elected to cancel the flight on 01 July 2013 online under the available cancel option in 'Manage My Booking', note: well in advance. I even printed out the reply saying the booking was cancelled and that a submission for refund was made. It further mentioned that it would take 21 working days to reflect in my account. This morning (27 August 2013) I received the customary reminder email from SAA about my flight. I tried to log in to my booking using the reference number and it reported an error. I called the customer care line on the page and was placed on hold, then put through to an automated voice service where I pressed the relevant numbers after which I was cut off. To date no refund of any kind is reflected in my account.
