Broken suitcase!

Travelled to Lanseria and back from CT for the holidays. Bought a new suitcase, but on my way back, not only was the canvas torn, but also the stand at the bottom of the case was totally broken off, so having wheels on my case was useless. Reported it immediately at the airport and have been told that I will have to bring the case to the airport and it will be sent away for repairs. Why should I have all the inconvenience when it was their fault? A woman next to me had the same problem and was in tears. I am fuming!
