SAA charging R15k change fee for a R20k flight

I booked a 3-leg round trip Jhb-NYC-Orlando, NYC-Jhb at a cost of R46k. On arrival back in NYC, we had a very bad experience and I developed a terrible migraine and couldnt get any strong OTC medication to manage the pain. In fear of a brain spasm (which I have had before) and without any medical care, we contacted SAA to possibly amend our return flight from 12 to 10 May. We spent approx 5hours on the phone trying to get information. (1) No one would send our detailed ticket costs (paid IN FULL) showing the cost of each leg of the trip even though I am entitled to this info. (2) Our estimate of the cost of the return leg was R21k for the 3 of us. (3) SAA wanted to charge us R5.1k for the change fee (which we were willing to pay) plus an extra R10k for a seat class upgrade still in economy. (4) When we did a booking estimate via their website the cost of a new ticket on the 10th on the higher seat class was approx. R22k, yet noone at SAA would disclose the revised ticket price or explain why we had to pay R10k additional from us for this seat. So we are stuck in NYC, ill and being extorted by our own airline! Shame on u SAA - we will NEVER flysaa again. I challenge a manager to respond!
