IPhone in for common fault. Blames water damage

I sent my phone in to repair a common fault among iPhone 4S. The WiFi radio chip malfunction. It only a couple of months old and under warranty. They replied with a quote for R3000 because of water residue found. Bottom line is that they admit the fault has nothing to do with water and the fault is a common manufacturing fault. Secondly i have taken such good care of the phone it doesn't have a single scratch on it. Now they tell me I had it somewhere by water. I am sure it is more likely that they had it close to water when they handled it. The tech in the outlet that had first look at the phone might have spilled his glass of water on it. The only time in the phones lifetime that it was out of a protective cover was when i bought it in the shop and when it was taken in for repair.
