Telkom
Telkom charges after cancellation notice

Telecommunications

I have cancelled my Telkom line on 17 March 2013 via the call centre. I was told I have to give 30 days notice. On a previous occasion I wasn't required to give 30 days notice and I was never informed of this new requirement by form of notice either when I signed up or afterwards.

In terms of section 49 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2008

"A term or notice... such provision must be drawn to the attention of the consumer before the consumer concludes the transaction or is required to offer consideration under it."

I would like some proof of where I was informed of this 30 days notice requirement by Telkom!

On 15 April I received a Telkom bill where I have been billed until 11 May 2013. A call to the call center and I was told "this is standard procedure".

I have laid numerous complaints but still no resolution to my complaint.

I was never informed of the notice period and now I'm being billed after my line has been deactivated and even AFTER the notice period.

I WILL NOT BE BULLIED BY TELKOM AND I WILL REFER THIS MATTER TO THE CONSUMER COMMISSION IF I DO NOT RECEIVE A CALL FROM TELKOM WITHIN 48 HOURS TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER AND TO REVERSE THE CHARGES.
