Vodacom
Unlawful removal of airtime

Telecommunications

Last month renewed my contract and decided to change from a Topup 200 to Smart Small in order to receive an i-phone. On the first of this month when the new contract kicked in, all my accumulated airtime, of around R800, was taken from me. No one warned me of this, so I contacted vodacom customer services and they claim I agreed to this when signing to migrate my contract. However, no one brought it to me attention, or showed it to me in the contract I signed.

Had I been aware that I would lose my airtime I would have had the choice to spend it or transfer it.
In reading the consumer protection act I see that vodacom had no right to remove my airtime, I therefore I would like it returned.

"Prepaid certificates, credits and vouchers

Any consideration paid by a consumer to a supplier in exchange for a prepaid... credit is the property of the bearer of that... credit to the extent that the supplier has not redeemed it in exchange for goods or services, or future access to services."
