Leaving MTN after 17 years, No phone for a month!

My HTC Desire S stopped functioning after a year of good service - 'Can't read sim card'. I handed in my phone at the Robertson agency for MTN and was told my sim card was fine and they need to send my phone for repairs. I time period of 7-10 days was suggested. Almost a month later my phone has returned with exactly the same fault uncorrected. The suggestion of the agents is to send it yet again for repairs. I have no interest in waiting yet another month for??? and would prefer that MtN keep my phone, let me out of the remainder of my contract and I'll pop off to the competition (bear in mind I've been a loyal MTN subscriber since 1996). Otherwise they can replace my phone with a working model immediately and I'll continue with them. I am truly cheesed. MTN, please sort this out or let me go.
