Absolutely pathetic service on brand new SamsungS3

I purchased My Galaxy S3 on the 22-02-2013 after my previous phone had been. On Sunday the 17 March I came home and greeted my dogs. As I was greeting them the phone (which had a cover on) slipped out of my hand and hit the ground. It fell no more than 40cm. When I picked it up and turned it on again the screen was completely black. The keys at the bottom of the screen would light up and the welcome tone when you turn the phone on would ring but the screen stayed completely black. The phone was only 24 days old and it was already broken. I then went on that week Tuesday (19 March) to Vodacom and handed the phone in. They sent it to the technicians who checked the phone and called me. They told me that the LCD screen was cracked and to fix it I would need to pay in R2500. They also told me it doesn't fall under warranty so they could do nothing about it unless i paid. THIS IS PATHETIC!! No phone in the world breaks when it falls 40cm! I have proof of purchase for the Phone. Aswell as the Original packaging and contents.

Please can you get back to me soon as I am willing to take this issue further if it hasn't been resolved soon!!!
