A couple of months ago, I asked Vodacom to cap my data account so that it would be impossible to get a huge surprise bill. They activated the cap, and I assumed everything was fine.
A couple of weeks ago, late in the evening, my cellular modem was connected to a PC that started downloading updates. The next morning at 9:51, I received 4 sms's within seconds from each other, saying that I've exceeded, 50%, 70%, 90% and 100% of my cap. When I logged in and looked at my bill I noticed that my bill was around R5500. This is exactly why I asked for the cap.
When I complained to Vodacom, their best solution was to credit me for the overspend, and charge me for a data bundle to cover the overrun. As a consequence, my bill is now close to R800 more than the subscription fee. There are 2 problems here:
1. They only sent the warning SMS's the next morning, so I didn't notice the overrun.
2. I have a cap in place, so they shouldn't have allowed the overrun in the first place.
I also requested the data logs, and still haven't received them.
They should just admit that their system didn't work properly and refund the entire amount.
