Confusing and ridiculous returns policy

I upgraded my contract last Friday (2013/02/22), and got the new Blackberry Z10, there were numerous problems with the phone. So I took the phone back today (2013/02/01), I explained the situation to one of their staff members, and she told me that I needed the box and all the equipment, so I returned within half an hour with everything requested. I was then told that actually I was out of the seven day return policy. This came as a shock as I expected it only to expire today one week after purchasing the phone, which logically would be today. She informed me they would have to send it in under the warranty, news of which I was not entirely happy about. As they were packing the box back up, they asked where a cardboard tray was that was supposed to be in the box. I informed them that it probably had been thrown away upon opening the box, to which they said that it would not be possible to send the phone in under the warranty! I was speechless! Not one of them could explain why this tray was needed, just that it was needed. I was not informed when purchasing the phone that all packaging had to be intact. The problem is with the phone, the packaging is irrelevant.
