Good day,

I recently called to inquire about cancelling my contract. The first person I spoke to about cancelling the contract said it would cost me around R5000 to cancel, I found this strange as this was how much it would cost to run the contract for the remaining months left. Surely with the new consumer act I would be liable to pay off the phone only and not the contract since I would no longer be using the service. Well I then phoned a week later to double check this. The person on the phone then said that it would cost R8000 to cancel the contract. When I said that I had been told previously it would cost R5000 the person said that these "quotes" are only valid for 7 days, I understand that but surely the amount should not go up?

No one could explain to me how this number was calculated or why it works out cheaper to run the contract then to cancel it? Surely I am only liable to pay off the phone and not the contract if I cancel?
