Contract cancel when leaving SA

We are relocating abroad at the end of the April and obviously my Vodacom contract will no longer be useful. There is approximately 10 months left on the contract. I asked them if I pay for the remaining portion of the phone and stop the contract but they refused. I'm on a talk 500 and pay app R1000 per month. If I want to cancel it I must pay app R10 000, but the phone isn't even worth that much! However, I understand they have certain policies in place, so my brother agreed to take over the contract as he is currently on prepaid. But now he must keep my number, we can't assign the contract to his number. I find this lack of support for customer needs pathetic. Surely this must happen often and they clearly have no system to deal with this.

I'm very disappointed in the level of service I received, especially seeing as I have been a loyal Vodacom subscriber for over 15 years with a bill between R2000 & 10 000 each month. When I return to South Africa I know which network to avoid
