Refusal to cancel contract upon son's death

Telecommunications

My 17 year old son was tragically killed in a car accident in August last year. Since then my husband has been trying to cancel our son's cell phone contract. It isn't a big contract, something like R150 per month. He has spent hours on the phone to Vodacom, spent time in a Vodacom shop and exchanged a string of emails. The response is always the same - fees for this and fees for that because the contract is in my name and I'm not dead!

Every month the bill for my son's phone comes and once again reminds us what we've lost and been through. I am shocked that a company like Vodacom can be so short sighted. My husband and I both have substantial Vodacom accounts and I find it hard to believe that they're more interested in keeping a small contract going for it's remaining few months rather than taking care of it's customers who have been and could have continued to be customers for an indefinite period of time. The best part of the story is that today we discovered that the cell number or account has been blocked since August so no one could use the airtime or calls we however must continue to pay!
