Vodacom breaks phone, will not / cannot fix

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 which I bought throug Vodacom on contract. When Vodacom supplies a phone they load a piece of software called "Vodafone Updates". On my phone I have version 3.8.14. The application cannot be uninstalled or disabled by the consumer. Unfortunately the software breaks the phone - intermittently the phone stops responding for 5 - 10 seconds - the screen freezes and becomes totally unresponsive. Then the error message "Unfortunately, Vodafone Updates has stopped" appears, and the only option is to press "OK". Besides the obvious inconvenience, this has happened when I have received an incoming call, and the frozen screen makes it impossible to answer or reject the call. This makes the core functionality of a phone (taking a call) impossible.

I called Vodacom and asked them for a fix, or to help me uninstall the application. I was put through to their technical department, which told me they did not install the software, and they cannot help me. Now I'm stuck with a phone that freezes, sometimes several times on a single day, and the company that installed the broken software denying all accountability. Not good enough. Shame on you, Vodacom.
